Emergency Broadcasters Set For Summer
This summer there will be 62 Emergency Broadcasters in Victoria who will interrupt normal programming on the radio and television to provide the community with warnings and information during emergencies.
EMV is the administrator of Victoria’s emergency broadcasting policy on behalf of the emergency services, with Memoranda of Understanding with the broadcasters.
Emergency Broadcasters play an important role in communicating critical and targeted information during times of crisis.
During emergencies, Emergency Broadcasters provide information, including updates and community alerts, which help the public to make good decisions for their own safety.
Three new broadcasters – LightFM, 3GCR and 3MGB, have signed MoUs this year complementing the existing broadcaster network, giving Central Gippsland, Mallacoota, Gypsy Point, Genoa and Metropolitan Melbourne better access to emergency radio broadcasting.
